Versilia is in the territory of the Parco delle Apuane, an area covering about 20.000 hectares that includes a wide variety of mountain and hill areas and the famous white marble caves. This is indeed the territory of the Apuan Alps that stand out for their deep valleys and the beauty of their rugged slopes. In the park there is a wide network of trails suitable for trekking excursions, mountain-biking or horse-riding.
Versilia has always been synonymous with nightlife. Along the Versilia waterfront, between Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio, there are some of the most famous discos and clubs in Italy, open until late at night.
From the Versilia Golf Resort it is possible to reach easily all the main art cities of Tuscany, including Lucca (35 km), Pisa (40 km), Florence (110 km) Siena (180 km) and Arezzo (200 km).
The historical capital of Versilia and renowned marble and bronze processing center, is a land rich in history and culture with many events throughout the year. Its well-finished historical center encloses many monuments, such as the Cathedral of St. Martino, the Church of S. Agostino, the Civic Tower and the Moroni Palace which houses the Archaeological Museum. Pietrasanta also hosts many workshops and art galleries.
The most popular beach resort in Versilia, owes its name to a small fort in the city center, still visible, built by Leopold I Grand Duke of Tuscany in the XVIII century. Very characteristic the historical center and the quarter Roma Imperiale, built at the beginning of the XX century by Giovanni Michelucci, which houses many noble villas surrounded by wide tree-lined parks, and the church of Sant’Ermete named after the patron saint of the city. Besides its beaches Forte dei Marmi is well-known also for its events (the feast of Sant’Ermete and San Francesco) and for its markets (antiques market, market of Piazza Marconi and of Vittoria Apuana).
Created in the first half of the XVI century as the only “sea window” of the Republic of Lucca, is another historic town of Versilia. It is known all over the world as seaside resort, but also for the majestic papier-mâché floats of its famous Carnival, created in 1873, and for its eclectic, Art Nouveau and Deco architecture.
Between Marina di Pietrasanta and Forte dei Marmi lies the Parco della Versiliana, an authentic green space along the beautiful Versilia coast, ideal place for an invigorating walk in the green at a short distance from the sea. In the greenery of the park there is the Villa La Versiliana, a historical building that in summer houses the Festival della Versiliana, with prose, dance, music and cabaret shows.
